Work package 2
Introduction
Work Package 2 is co-lead by The SAMRC/Wits Centre for Health Economics and Decision Science (PRICELESS SA) in South Africa and the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Kenya. The team will build on Work Package 1 to examine the economic costs of harms driven by UCIs and to analyse opportunities to promote fiscal approaches to address NCDs and the climate crisis.
- Evaluate trends in prices and sales of alcohol and Ultra Processed Foods (UPFs) products and of fossil fuels.
- Analyse the degree of market concentration of these industries.
- Examine how corporate marketing strategies and investment shifting affect population exposure to harmful products.
- Examine the extent of UCI’s dependency on sales to low-income consumers. and to heavy consumers of harmful commodities.
