Work package 1
Introduction
As the primary focus of year 1, this Work Package is co-lead by the University of Edinburgh and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. The team will document available evidence on the health impacts of Commercial Determents of Health (CDoH) in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and examining similarities, differences and links across Unhealthy Commodity Industries (UCIs). This employs our team’s expertise in diverse analyses and evidence syntheses of commercial impacts within and across sectors and contexts to:
- Synthesise evidence of CDoH impacts on inequalities and sustainable development in SSA.
- Analyse strategic similarities focused on corporate philanthropy and social media.
- Examine structural links across sectors, analysing corporate investments and interlocking directorates across business, policy and philanthropic contexts.
