Understanding and Addressing Commercial Determinants of Health in Sub-Saharan Africa

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, industries producing unhealthy commodities—such as alcohol, ultra-processed foods, and fossil fuels—play a significant role in shaping public health outcomes. Our research explores the commercial determinants of health (CDoH) and their impact on inequalities, sustainable development, and governance.

Through three interconnected Work Packages, our collaborative effort—led by institutions across Africa and the UK—aims to generate evidence, assess economic impacts, and inform policies that promote health and equity. Explore each Work Package below to learn more about our approach to tackling these pressing challenges.
